What is EPR?

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a policy approach aimed at reducing environmental impact by making producers responsible for the lifecycle of their products, especially at the post-consumer stage. This includes proper recycling, collection, and disposal of e-waste generated from electronic goods.

As per the E-Waste Management Rules, 2016 (amended), manufacturers, importers, brand owners (MIBOs), and producers are required to obtain EPR authorization and comply with recycling or disposal targets to mitigate environmental damage.
